American homes, yes that includes Boston luxury condos, are large than ever. The average home under new construction is 2,600 sq ft. up from 2,300 sq ft from last year.
The post recession in single-family home size is consistent with historical pattern coming out of a recession. Typical new home sizes fall prior to and during a recession as home buyers tighten budgets, and than sizes rise as luxury home buyers, who face fewer constraints, return to the housing market in relatively greater proportions.
